If splenectomy is done, should we give prophylatic antimalarials throughout the life? Also is pnemococcal vaccine to be repeated every 5 years or to be given once only in these pts?

in sickle cell desease pnemococcal vaccine is repeated every 5 years because of autospleectomy . but why in thalesemia pts vaccine is given once . while both are hamoglobinopathies..
