ONe needs to find out the cause. First confirm the thrombocytopenia with a peripheral smear as sometimes a coulter may give an erroneous count due to clumping of platelets. Rule out drug history, ITP and if persistent a bone marrow examination may be required. Platelet transfusion is not required unless the child is actively bleeding.
