Thrombocytopenia is not an absolute contraindication for lumbar puncture. Since procedure of LP does not cut any blood vessel, it is safe in thrombocytopenia. However in case of traumatic LP, bleeding may be difficult to control and if it is so, it may cause a hematoma which may cause compression of the spinal cord.
