You can first start by obtaining your accurate height measurement to calculate your BMI {body mass index}. A normal BMI is 19-25. Weight loss can be achieved by maintaining a healthy diet {increase fruits, veggies, decrease sugar, processed, fatty, fried, fast foods} and exercise regimen {30 minutes daily or 45 minutes three times a week} under the approval and supervision of your physician. Portion control and decrease caloric intake will also be beneficial. Your goal weight loss is 1 pound per week.

It is important to know trend of your weight pattern and also your height. If you have always been maintaining similar weight and with good height, you should not consider any change. However if you have been gaining weight recently, first make sure you have no disease that may account for weight gain such as edema, adrenal hyperfunctiion or hypothyroidism etc. Once you have ruled diseases, your weight gain may suggest imbalance between consumption of calories and expenditure of calories. So you may consider accordingly high physical exercise and also strict diet control. Lastly if there is strong family history of obesity, you may be only partially successful with exercise and diet program. What is more important is to keep healthy and weight is not the only criterion of health.
