Which ferrous salt is best for pediatric iron deficiency anemia? Most of the supplements use ferrous ascorbate.

Expert Answer :
There is no best salt. all salts will eventually lead to an increase in iron stores. some will do it sooner than others. The more the elemental iron content, the lesser the duration of therapy. Iron poly-maltose is the slowest and the duration of therapy will be about 8 months. In my opinion, Ferrous Fumarate remains the best option considering elemental iron, cost, and response.
