Expert Answer :
IF the child is severely anaemia than you need to be cautious.
Depending on pts Hb level you could beging with that much cc, kg` e.g if child`s Hb is 3 gm, dl` then begin with 3 cc , kg.
3 cc, kf of Packed cells will raise Hb by 1 gm so it is easy to calculate depending on childs Hb and expected rise you want in the child`
if a 10 kg child with 3 gm, dl Hb needs to be brought up to 14 gm, dl then you need to give the child {14-3} x 3 x body wt 10 of packed cells to raise Hb to 13 gm, dl. so you give 1st 3 cc, kg over 2 hrs` then next aliquot of blood you may give 4 cc, kg over 2 hrs after 12 hrs and then 4 cc, kg as the third aliquot.
Donot exceed a Hb of more than 15.5 gm, dl in a thalassaemiac child.
