Medical companies r coming with Glutamine with Zn,preand pro biotics combination.How far Glutamime is effective in acute diarrhoea_?

There have been various studies that have tried out Glutamine with ORS.

Ref: Journal of the American College of Nutrition, Vol 13, Issue 3 251-255: Glutamine-based ORS did not provide any additional therapeutic advantage over the standard WHO-ORS during treatment of dehydration in infants with acute non-cholera diarrhea

Ref: Journal of pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition: 2004, vol. 38, no5, pp. 494-501. Duration of diarrhea was shorter in children supplemented with glutamine. The beneficial impact of Glutamine supplementation seems to be through effects on gastrointestinal mucosa rather than the host immune response

Thus more evidence is required before one can comment on role of Glutamine in acute diarrhea.

recently aminoacids have been used in NEWER ORS ...which is highly effective.
