Chikungunya disease is caused by the Chikungunya virus. It is Alphavirus. The disease is spread by culicine mosquitoes. Sudden severe headache, chills, fever, joint and muscle pain are the commonest symptoms. Dengue is a close differential diagnosis. Treatment is supportive. Diagnosis is by serology.

the name so given is due to its presentation clnically.it affects joints of the body,causing reduction in movements.typically temtorary deformity like a chicken.the tx of choice is hydroxychloroquine or plain chloroquine as by my experience.there is no serologycal tests at present available in mumbai,only virus can be detected at pune institute of virology.bt mainstay for daignosis is clinical
