In the recent past I have seen few patients of diptheria coming for medical attention within days of developing symptoms. Can I use injection Erythromycin in them for treatment. Within how many days of developing symptoms can I give, use Erythromycin in them?

You may use Erythromycin only if patient has allergy to Penicillin as the latter is specific for C.diphderia infection. Start the treatment as soon as possible after taking throat swab and nasal sectretions for Albert stain and culture.

You may injection clarithromycin IV in them as when the individual case may demand.
