which is the empirical antibiotic of choice in diarrhea in children_?
some pediatrician are using Ofloxacin ,some r Ofloxacin plus Nitazoxanide combination,
can we use ciplox
what r yr experience with levofloxacinand cefixime

Expert Answer :
As per WHO Antibiotics are not effective against most diarrhoea-causing organisms. They are to be used only for dysentery
and cholera. For cholera Doxycycline is recommended in children more than 8 years of age and Erythromycin can be used as an alternative. For shigella dysentry, WHO recommended Ciprofloxacin in dose of 15mg, kg 2 times a day for 3 days.

most of the diarheas in children do not require antibiotics. unless we are very ure that we are dealing with a bacterial diarrhea ie bacillary dysentry we should not use abx.in dysentry we can use cefixime,septran or ofloxacin
