in hypernatreaemia how we can select iv fluid accordig to blood sodium
0
Expert Answer :
In asymptomatic hypovolemic hypernatremia, fluid resuscitation alone may suffice. In symptomatic hypernarremia, slow reduction of serum sodium over 48 hours is attempted with infusion of normal saline. In euvolemic hypernatremia as in case of diabetes incipidus, increased fluid intake suffices and this is possible with oral fluids as child is excessively thirsty. In hypervolemic hypernatremia, retention of sodium may need renal excretion with diuretic. Though most common symptomatic hypernatremia is due to hypovolemic hypernatremia and needs slow correction.
