I want to know rational use of cough syrup combination which type and when to use?

Usually there are 2 types of cough syrups - cough suppresant and cough expectorant. In cough suppressant usually the combination of antihistamine and dextromethorphan or codeine is useful. Among the cough expectorant, mucolytics with bronchodilators are useful. As a decongestant antihistamines and pseudoephedrine may be added.
