I saw a 3 y.o. apparently well child 2 days ago . PE Less than unremarkable . Parents wanted executive blood workup for the child . Results showed 5 mg total bili, 440 both ALP and GGT , 250 SGPT . Other liver function test within normal limit . I cant explain the results . The is anicteric , urine and stool color is normal , no hepatosplenomegaly . Can this be Viral Hepatitis _? Cholestasis_? I wanted to request for ultrasound , but parents opted repeat blood workup with other medical center

Expert Answer :
Bilirubin of 5 is high. It may be hepatitis. - Cause difficult to comment though acute viral hepatitis may be the commonest cause. A follow up of liver function tests after a few days and viral markers may be essential. If the LFTS continue to be abnormal even after few months, then only one may consider workup for chronic hepatitis.
