Primary PPHN occurs as a primary developmental defect. Secondary PPHN is secondary to other diseases such as meconium aspiration syndrome {MAS}, pneumonia, sepsis, hyaline membrane disease, congenital diaphragmatic hernia {CDH}, and pulmonary hypoplasia.
