Partially treated bacterial meningitis is diagnosed by LP and CSF analysis and is often confused with Viral and more commonly with TBM.One easy way is to treat as bacterial meningitis with drug like chloramphenicol or Ceftrazone and repeat LP after 72 hours.if there is improvement in CSF than we are dealing with bacterial meningits,if there is no improvement than the Dd is between viral and TBM.in viral meningitis the CSF sugur will be normal or more, while in TBM it will be always less.
