The treatment for hydatid cysts includes either chemotherapy or surgery or a combination of the two. Guidelines for the treatment of hydatid cysts have been published by the World Health Organisation {WHO} recently. Surgery remains the first choice for treatment for most cases, although chemotherapy with the benzimidazlole compounds {albendazole or mebendazole} may be tried.
