It depends on many factors.
1} age of the child
2} clinical examination of child i.e. whether any features of mengititis are present or not
3} usually as a rule of thumb- the younger the child the more suspicion of meningitiis

Though there are several opinions on the subject, there are several papers that recommend a lumbar puncture in first episode of febrile convulsion to rule out meningitis.

this depend on age of patient if the child below 18 months the meningeal sigins not manifested well so LP should be done if there is high index of suspicion of meningitis otherwise patient after 18 monthts with first attack febrile seizure should be carefully observed......
