female of 3 yrs old with sickle celll disease admitted for her 2nd cerebrovascular accident.

i would like to do exchange transfusion for her. amount of blood_? how to do it_?

Exchange Transfusion is similar to a newborn exchange Tx` Do a double volume exchane` Have a secure IV access` Jugular or femoral what ever you are comfortable. Remove 20 cc and Push 20 cc of Blood. Monitor vital parameters` Give calcium supplements as in an exchange Tx. Use preferably Less than 5 days old blood.
In an older child a pharesis machine can be used for Exchange Tx.
