Can you suggest the significane of delayed detachement of the umbilical cord in a sick preterm.

It may signify fulminant septicemia leading to neutropenia.In fact any condition causing neutropenia or decreased immunity may delay detachment of umblical cord.Some cases of congenital neutropenia do present as delayed detachment of umblical cord even in apparently healthy babies.
