Lactitol

Mechanism :

In the colon it is broken down to short chain organic acids and increases osmotic pressure in the colon, thereby causing an increase in the stool water content and stool volume.


Indication :

  • To prevent or treat constipation

Contraindications :

Patients with known hypersensitivity to any of the active substance.

Gastro-intestinal obstruction.


Dosing :

Available as lactitol Monohydrate 10 g syrup.
2 teaspoonful (10 g) once or twice daily with plenty of water.

Adverse Effect :

No known interactions. Some interactions under investigation.


Interaction :

Antacids, Anti-hypertensives, Broad spectrum antibiotics & Diuretics.



Hepatic Dose :

No dosage adjustments are recommended.
