cefixime lacks antistaphylococcal activity totally and has a weak antipneumococcal activity hence not of first choice in empiric tt of respiratory infections.
cefpodoxime proxetil has best profile of antibacterial activity against almost all common respiratory pathogens except mycoplasma,chlamydia hence a good choice as first-secondline agent in GAS,Pneumococcal{PSSP},H.Influ,Moraxella,Staph.{PSSA,not MRSA}
