What is the youngest age at which Monteleucast can be used? What are the side effects of long term use of Moteleucast and is there any monitoring to be done for the same?

Montelukast is indicated for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma in pediatric patients 12 months of age and older. It is indicated for the relief of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis in pediatric patients 2 years of age and older.

Adverse effects: pharyngitis, influenza, fever, sinusitis, nausea, diarrhea, dyspepsia, otitis, viral infection, and laryngitis

Montelukast can be used in children more than 1 year of age. Beside gastritis, headache, there can be anxiety, hyperactivity and recurrent otitis and urine infections.
