to keep the oxygen blood level at a the normal saturation rate to prevent hypoxia and brain damage.

acute accelerated hypoxia leads to acidosis and rise in pvr further accelerating vicious cycle of hypoxia,acidosis,tachycardia.

Hypercyanotic episodes are characterized by paroxysms of hyperpnea, prolonged crying, intense cyanosis, and decreased intensity of the murmur of pulmonic stenosis.
It is secondary to infundibular spasm and-or decreased SVR with increased right-to-left shunting at the VSD, resulting in diminished pulmonary blood flow. Oxygen is required to reduce the hypoxia.
