Ponderal index is used to classify IUGR babies into symmetric and assymmetric types. Thus it gives an idea of the time of the developmental delay ie. ealry onset of pregnancy or late in pregnancy.
It is calculated by wt in gms-ht in cm3 x 100.
If the value is more than two it is symmetric IUGR.
