What are the criteria to say RESISTANT TUBERCULOSIS,

{If a pt is on A.T.Tand not responding}

Expert Answer :
Clinical criteria to say resistant tuberculosis is continuation of symptoms in spite of compliant standard ATT for 3 months but better criteria are to demonstrate AFB resistant to ATT. If this is not possible. one must confirm diagnosis of tuberculosis before considering resistant TB. In such a case, it is best to refer a patient to an expert as second line of ATT is not only costly but also toxic and prognosis may not be good. Thus, I feel resistant TB is a diagnosis that demands ideally bacteriological confirmation and should be treated at a center with expertise to treat such patients.
