Thrombocytosis can be due to splenectomy, Infection {acute and chronic}, Essential thrombocytosis {non-familial}, Inflammatory disorders {eg Kawasaki's disease}, Essential thrombocytosis {familial}, Chronic iron deficiency, Chronic myeloid leukaemia, Acute or chronic blood loss, Polycythaemia vera, Tissue damage from trauma or surgery, myelofibrosis, Medicines {steroid, vincristine}, Myelodysplastic syndromes, Malignancy {Hodgkin's disease, solid tumours}, Rebound from chemotherapy.
