IMNCI focuses on strengthening homebased care and provides special care for under-nourished newborns. During home visits by health workers the mother is taught how to recognise diseases early and when to seek medical help.

The objectives of IMNC plus strategy in RCH II are to:
-Implement, by 2010, a comprehensive newborn and child health package at the level of all Sub-centres {through ANMs} Primary health centres {through medical officers, nurse and LHVs} and First referral units {through medical officers and nurses}
- Implement by 2010 a comprehensive newborn and child health package at the household level in 250 districts {through AWWs}
