Please highlight me about investigating a child aged 5 yrs who is getting recurrent episodes of parotitis. She is HIV negative. The individual attacks respond to Antibiotics and Antiinflammatory drugs.

Recurrent episodes of parotitis may be due to recurrent bacterial infections with duct obstruction or duct stones, chronic autoimmune parotitis, Mikulicz disease , Sjögren syndrome, sarcoidosis and Juvenile Parotitis of Childhood.

Check for Lupus, Syphlis,Cystic fibrosis, Sarcoid........A sialogram to rule out ductal pathology or stones.
