now a days lot of priscription contains Cefixime or amoxyclav for any respiratory problem. is it justified_? is drug like simple amoxycillin etc do not act_?

Antibiotics in a URI are usually needed for streptococcal infection for which oral penicillin is drug of choice. Other occasions where antibiotics are needed are for sinusitis or otitis media for which amoxycillin is recommended.

No..all respiratory tract infections do not necessitate antibiotics...those which require,cefixime should not be the first choice

it is not justified at all.amoxycillin definately works but we have to firsst decide the etiology wether it isss viral,bacterial,atypical organissm.then only presscribe antibiotics .most of the pediatric respirsatory infections are viral and they do not require antibiotics

yeh you r right and we r creating a problem by ourself as in need one day these would be resistant
I would like t higlight about cefixine that Cefixime has excellent activity against ß-lactamase–producing bacteria but limited activity against even penicillin-susceptible pneumococci, so should not be first line for resp issues .
