Levofloxacin suspentions are now freely available in the market. Can and should Levofloxacin be used in children especially below 6 years and in what doses and indications_?

Expert Answer :
Fluoroquinolones, including levofloxacin, have not been recommended for use in children largely because studies in juvenile laboratory animals suggest there may be an increased risk of fluoroquinolone-associated cartilage lesions. Despite this reluctance, fluoroquinolones have been prescribed to treat difficult infections in children such as MDR-TB and should not be used for routine antibiotic prescriptions.
