WHO has recommended artemether-lumefantrine for the treatment of uncomplicated falciparum malaria in a workshop in Ethiopa in 2004. For vivax malaria chloroquine still remains the drug of choice. For chloroquine resistant vivax malaria, one may use mefloquine or quinine. For severe vivax malaria, treatment will be the same as falciparum malaria and artheter and lumefantrine can be used in such a situation.
