in case of severe rickets..after i give vitamin D3 injection for 1 year old child at dose of 600,000 IU
what other drugs should be used.. or the injection alone is satisfactory_?

Expert Answer :
Rickets is due to vitamin D deficiency and treatment consists only of vitamin D. In case of associated hypocalcemia, calcium supplements may be given. However 600000 units may be quite high for a one year old child. Thus keep a watch for hypercalciuria and nephrocalcinosis.

in addition to Vitamin D , the child should be supplemented with calcium. the child should be evaluated again to assess the response to Vitamin D {radiologically and biochemically}.
