May be anywhere between 3 to 5 days depending upon S.Bilirubin level. Even if you stop Phenobarbitone enzyme produced will continue to work for next few days

There are very few studies that determine the efficacy of Phenobarbitone in Neonatal hepatitis. It is routinely used for 5 days prior to HIDA scan and also for differentiation from Crigler Najer 1 and 2. However prolonged use has been tried in Neonatal cholestasis leading to pruritis but results are inconclusive.
