Expert Answer :
Beta-lactamase production is one of the major mechanisms of resistance amongst bacteria especially the enteric bacilli. Addition of sulbactam to Cefoperazone leads to susceptibility in 82percent of Klebsiella spp, 100percent of E.coli, 100percent of Enterobacter spp, 33percent of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 67percent of Pseudomonas spp and 62percent of Acinetobacter spp.
Cefaperazone and sulbactum in combination of 2:1 has demonstrated clinically significant synergism against approximately 20percent of strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Among all b-lactam-inhibitor combinations tested In a paper from Russia, cefoperazonepersulbactam {1:1} revealed the highest activity against ESBL-producing E.coli and K.pneumoniae.
