Can you please tell me if Warfarin is safe in lactating mothers? Will it cause bleeding tendencies in the baby?

Warfarin is safe in lactating mothers, no it will not cause any bleeding tendencies in the baby.

Warfarin can be given to a lactating mother. It is considered to be the oral anticoagulant of choice in nursing mothers.

Coumadin appears in the milk of lactating mothers in an inactive form.
It wont give rise to bleeding in the baby. Effect on premature babies is unknown

The American Academy of Pediatrics considers this medication to be compatible with breastfeeding. Because of its high protein binding in the maternal circulation, very small amounts are secreted into breastmilk.
These findings do not apply to
other oral anticoagulants, including warfarin derivatives.
