A 4 YRS BOY WEIGHT 12 KG IS HAVING ON AND OFF
COUGH FOR LAST 2 YEARS.THERE IS NO HISTORY OF FEVER AND TB CONTACT.HIS BLOOD REPORT IS AS UNDER Hb-11GM,TLC-15500,N-33,L-67...ESR-50,...MONTOUX -NEGATIVE...XRAY CHEST SLIGHT HILAR PROMNINCE OTHERWISE MORE OR LESS NORMAL.
AS HIS LYMPHO IS 67 percent ESR-50..WHICH SUGGEST CHRONIC INFECTION.BUT XRAY IS INCONCLUSIVE MONTOUX IS NEGATIVE..CAN ELISA FOR TB WILL BE OF SOME HELP.

Answer:

• Serological {ELISA for T.B} tests for TB are most confusing does not give definite answer.
I would go one step high to state that, they are not recommended in clinical practice.
• You have to look for other causes.
Mostly it is infectious origin of Resp. tract needs antibiotic for a week or 10 days and repeat ESR would be of help before ordering any other tests.
