7 year old boy born out ofconsanguinous marriage presented with complaints of difficulty in releasing the grip especially on holding cold objects and transient ptosis while taking bath in cold water for last 2-3 years.percussion myotonia could be elicited. Diagnosed as paramyotonia. ref to neurologist who confirmed it by EMG and started on dialantun.patient improved
Question 1.is there a better alternative to dialantin_?
2. How long the drugs have to be taken_?

Expert Answer :
Dilantin is a good drug and safe for a few years at least. Can be reviewed and assessed again without meds and seen. may need long term.
