Expert Answer :
Thanks for your query. It raises many questions than answers. I will try and answer it as constructively as possible.

First of all, what is frequent vaginal examination - How many PVs are considered frequent.
Secondly, what are the normal vaginal flora in that region.

For example, USA and Australia - have a policy to screen all pregnant mothers for Group B streptococcus between 34 and 37 weeks gestation and if they are positive, the mother gets oral antibiotics to eradicate the Group B. But in India - we believe that Group B streptococcus is not a problem. If that is the case, what are the normal vaginal flora you are concerned about_? If your REGION has say high incidence of Klebsiella for example, from vaginal swabs - then one could consider - even then the emergence of resistant organisms plus cost of treatment etc considered, routine use is not warranted.

Generally vaginal examinations are supposedly done under aseptic precautions. Hence ROUTINE antibiotics in an otherwise well child is not generally warranted. But if the baby is symptomatic either as RDS, TTN or hypoglycaemia etc one would consider antibiotics.
