1 year old child with a birth weight of 1800 gms{ full term } now has a weight of 7 kg. In order to grade PEM, what should be taken as expected weight ? Upto what age can diagnosis of PEM be made ?

PEM is commonly seen till 5yrs. Expected wt. 8500gm

Expected weightat 1 year of age is 10 kg. But this child was small for date so you have to plot his weight percentile at birth and trace till current age , if he is falling through centile chart by 2 SD then you can label him as Failure to thrive - PEM. Diagnosis of PEM can be made upto the age of 5 years.
