Terfenadine

Mechanism :

It is a long acting, non-sedating anti-histaminic drug used in certain allergic conditions such as rhinitis and urticaria.


Indication :

  • Antihistamine for allergic reactions such as runny nose, sneezing, throat irritation; red, irritated, itchy and tearing eyes.

Contraindications :

Contraindicated in patients who are taking antifungal drugs, ulcer drugs, antibiotics and hypersensitivity.


Dosing :

Not recommended in children below 3 years of age.
3-5 years:
15 mg twice a day PO.
6-12 years:
30-60 mg twice a day PO.

Adverse Effect :

Contraindicated in patients who are taking antifungal drugs, ulcer drugs, antibiotics and hypersensitivity.

GI disturbances, dry mouth, epistaxis, fatigue and dizziness.


Hepatic Dose :

Contraindicated in severe hepatic impairment.
