Is there any correlation between hyperglycemia and organo-phosphorus poisoning?

The increase in serum glucose is due to secondary release of catecholamines from the adrenal medulla.It is important to do a blood sugar in a hyperventilating child with altered mental status, which can be present in both oraganophosphorus poisoning and DKA.

The increase in serum glucose is believed to be due to secondary release of catecholamines from the adrenal medulla.Although acute pancretitis and pancretic necrosis have also been reported ,hyperglycemia is commonly believed to be secondary to excess catecholamines released from adrenal medulla.

Hyperglycemia has been reported many times with OP poisoning in the literature. The increase in serum glucose is believed to be due to secondary release of catecholamines from the adrenal medulla.
