Mometasone
Mechanism :
It is a potent topical corticosteroid used in the form of ointments in the treatment of various inflammatory skin disorders like eczema, psoriasis lichen simplex and planus, contact and atopic dermatitis.
Indication :
- Maintenance treatment of asthma
- Seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.
- Psoriasis, eczema and atopic dermatitis
Contraindications :
Hypersensitivity
Use with caution in those with skin disease, immunosuppressed or in Pediatrics.
Dosing :
Topical:
2 years or older: Apply a thin layer (0.1%) cream, lotion, ointment to the affected area once a day.
Intranasal:
2-12 years: 1 spray (50 mcg) in each nostril every day.
>12 years: 2 sprays in each nostril every day.
Inhaled:
4-11 years: 110 mcg once daily in the evening. Max: 110 mcg.
>12 years: 220 mcg once or twice daily. Max: 440-880 mcg/day.

Skin atrophy, delayed wound healing, systemic adrenal suppression, HPA axis suppression, Cushing syndrome, hyperglycemia, intracranial hypertension, pruritus, skin atrophy, striae
irritation, hypertrichosis, secondary infection.
Hepatic Dose :
Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic impairment as inhalation and intranasal mometasone undergoes extensive first-pass metabolism in the liver.
