Mephenesin

Synonym :

Internuncial Neurone Blocking Agent

Mechanism :

It is a topical analgesic that relaxes muscles. It is used in the symptomatic relief of painful muscle spasms, however its use in ointments is based more on rubefacient than relaxing properties.


Indication :

  • Acute muscle spasms
  • Torticollis
  • Lumbago
  • Backache
  • Myalgia

Dosing :

Available as 0.5%/10%/1%/30 gm cream/ointment.
Apply over the affected area 2-3 times a day.

Adverse Effect :

Local erythema and irritation, pruritus and dermatitis.


Hepatic Dose :

No dosage adjustments are recommended.
