Oral thrush

Question :
Spot diagnosis

What is the oral lesion? What underlying condition should one rule out?

Discussion :
Oral thrush. Though oral thrush is common in infants, evidence of oral thrush in an older child should make one rule out underlying immunodeficiency. This child has an underlying HIV infection. Candidial infection may also be seen in malnourished, debilitated patients and in patients with diabetes mellitus and polyendocrinopathy.
