Dactylitis



Question :
This child presented with recurrent pain in hands and feet. On examination he had pallor and hepatomegaly with just palpable spleen.



What is the diagnosis?

Discussion :
Dactylitis. Dactylitis presents with inflammation of fingers and toes. Dactylitis can occur in the following conditions:
o Infection - TB, congenital syphillis
o Sickle cell anemia (infarctive crisis)
o Leukemia
o Connnective tissue disorders
In this child the dactylitis is due to sickle cell anemia.
