what is the manegment of dettol ingestion in 2 years old child please_?
0
Expert Answer :
Dettol is a household disinfectant. It contains 4.8 percent
Chloroxylenol
, a 9 percent pine oil and 12 percent isopropyl alcohol, all of which can depress the central nervous system. Chloroxyenol also has a corrosive action on the mucus membrane of the gastrointestinal tract leading to gastrointestinal hemorrhage. All the active components of Dettol are CNS depressants that can cause drowsiness and even coma. It can also lead to aspiration, hepatotoxicity and renal toxicity. Treatment consists of gastric lavage only for large quantity of ingestion. For small quantity ingestion, gastric lavage should not be used. Treatment is supportive.
