Is it possible that in LMN lesions say NM Junction lesions or myopathies, Deep tendon reflexes be brisk? Why I ask is recently we had a 6yr old child presenting with weakness, generalised wasting, hypotonia, exagerrated lordosis, waddling gait all fitting into myopathy. But her deep tendon reflexes were brisk except that knee jerk was absent. Please give your comment.

It is not possible for myopathy to have brisk reflexes except if the myopathy is due to cause that is also affecting the central nervous system such as metabolic myopathies. Look for a central cause of the weakness.

in lmn usually dtr is decreased or normal but not increased unless it is associated with umn lesion or may be due to familial normally hyperexagerrated jerks.
