In a child with post viral infection neutropenia, which might take a few days sometimes also a week to pick up again,how does one manage and what is the mean duration of time to expect the counts to increase?

if the neutroph.count dropped below 500 we should keep the child in revese isolation and cover him with antibiotics, after onw week we can give him c stimulatig factor to stimulate his b. marrow.

You need to regularly follow up the child. Usually the neutrophil count start to show a rising trend within a few days of resolution of clinical disease. A serial CBC is required. Neutropenia that occurs with common childhood viral diseases develops during the first 1 to 2 days of illness and may persist for 3 to 8 days. If it persists longer a bone marrow examination may be required. There is no treatment required for post viral neutropenia in the meantime.
