Travoprost
Mechanism :
Travoprost free acid is a selective FP prostanoid receptor agonist and is believed to reduce intraocular pressure by increasing the drainage of aqueous humor, which is done primarily through increased uveoscleral outflow and to a lesser extent, trabecular outflow facility.
Indication :
- Elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension
Contraindications :
Inflammation in the eye (e.g., iritis, uveitis), Hypersensitivity.
Dosing :
Safety and efficacy not established in children.
Available as 0.004%/2.5 ml ophthalmic solution.
16 years and older: Instill 1 drop in the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening.
Adverse Effect :
heartburn or indigestion, blindness, blood in urine, blurred or decreased vision, burning, dry or itching eyes, chest pain, confusion, nervousness, faintness or light-headedness when getting up from a lying or sitting position, fast or irregular heartbeat, fever or chills, headache, high cholesterol, loss of bladder control, muscle pain or stiffness, pounding in the ears, sudden sweating unusual tiredness.
