Silver Nitrate

Mechanism :

It is an ophthalmic solution used in the prophylaxis of ophthalmia neonatorum in the newborns. It is immediately applied after birth.


Indication :

  • Antiseptic wound cauterization
  • Umbilical granuloma

Contraindications :

It is an ophthalmic solution used in the prophylaxis of ophthalmia neonatorum in the newborns. It is immediately applied after birth.


Dosing :

Apply 0.2% W/W gel over the affected area.

Adverse Effect :

Chemical conjunctivitis if used in the eyes, burning and irritation, methemoglobinemia.


Interaction :

No significant interactions found.



Hepatic Dose :

No dosage adjustments are recommended.
